Reading gives people a way to examine an argument directly. Schools have a responsibility to teach it well, and public commentary has a responsibility to describe achievement measures accurately.
A young person in distress needs to be taken seriously. Turning that distress into a sweeping judgment about a generation can obscure the individual who needs help.
A young person who is not working or enrolled in education may need a path into opportunity. A statistical category cannot tell us that person’s motives, responsibilities, or future.
A death toll carries moral weight. That is precisely why it must be reported accurately. Mixing provisional estimates, final counts, and different reference years can turn legitimate concern into misinformation.
Children depend on adults who hold power over their daily lives. That dependence creates an obligation to protect their dignity and safety, including when a disclosure is uncomfortable for a family or institution.
